Seven killed after explosion in Cuddalore firecracker unit in Tamil Nadu.

Cuddalore: Tamil Nadu Cuddalore firecracker Factory Explosion: The incident took place at around 11 am. The unit belonged to one Gandhimadhi, of Kurungudi village, who also died along with her daughter in the mishap.

Seven persons were killed and two others were injured in an explosion at a fireworks unit in Kattumanarkoil town near Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu on Friday. All the deceased were believed to be women, as per initial reports.

The injured were rushed to a government hospital in the town.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

The incident took place at around 11 am. The unit belonged to one Gandhimadhi, of Kurungudi village, who also died along with her daughter in the mishap.

Local reports claimed that the impact of the blast was felt close to 5 kilometers from the spot. The fire department and the police also arrived at the spot.

Cuddalore Superintendent of Police, Sree Abhinav, held an inquiry at the site. Kaatumanarkoil Police said the fireworks unit was a licensed one.

More than 10 fireworks units are currently operational in Kurungudi.
